The United SMEs Association of Kenya is a legally registered not-for-profit organization committed to helping Small & Medium Enterprises connect and promote their businesses for a more profitable and sustainable future. The United SMEs Association of Kenya was formed out of a realization that severe problems were being faced by the SME sector in Kenya, which were not being addressed due to the lack of a strong representative organization. The United SMES Association of Kenya is a voluntary membership Non-Profit organization open to all registered Small and Medium Enterprises in Kenya. Initiated to enhance the industrial development of small-scale industries and traders in the country right from the grassroots level.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct baseline survey regarding potential members, Membership Retention, Re-integration.
  • Conduct routine enterprise and potential member visits and profile Member operational enterprises as standardized in the Data Bank.
  • Support the implementation of activities/events e.g. Capacity Building/Planning Workshops, Orientation Seminars.
  • Support development of Membership tools and materials (media): Print, Visual and Audio, Compile Activity Reports of e.g. various members activities.
  • Manage membership records and submit them to the Secretariat including issuing financial records, provision and processing membership applications.
  • Strengthen Internal and External Communication strategy e.g. for the Region at the levels of Membership, Zone, Regional and Secretariat.
  • Growing and executing lobbying strategies for the United SMES Association of Kenya.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with various partners – businesses, governments, embassies, investors, NGOs, etc.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in PR and Media studies, marketing, economics, business or related fields;
  • Three years of experience working with the financial sector or related sector;
  • Ability to construct, interpret, critique budgets and track expenditure; strong financial/budgeting skills;
  • Previous exposure and experience in Networking and ability to foster partnerships with community and/or Government agencies/organizations and groups;
  • Report writing skills, Strong group facilitation and training skills, Financial Management skills;
  • Knowledge of community development, empowerment and mentoring approaches;
  • Demonstrated experience in community economic development and management (own business or providing business development services) experience with small business financing, market analysis and market research
  • Good oral and written communication skills in both English and any other widely spoken foreign language such as French and Chinese as well as networking skills will be an added advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of English with proven ability to communicate in English (spoken and written) clearly and concisely. Knowledge of other local languages is an asset.

Volunteers work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision & mentorship of a staff member in the department or program to which they are assigned.
